Edinburgh Book Festival 2016

The LRC ran 2 trips to the Edinburgh Book Festival this year.  Friday was Losing the Labels with Juno Dawson and Cecilia Ahern.  On Monday we heard Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock & Jenny Valentine talk about writing and developing characters in their books. Hard hitting sometimes but great fun!

Edinburgh Book Festival

The LRC will be running 2 trips to the Book Festival this year.  Both are aimed at S5/6 pupils and pupils studying for Higher/Advanced Higher English would benefit especially.

26 August –  Lose the labels with Cecelia Ahern and Juno Dawson.

29 August – Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock and Jenny Valentine .

Both will be whole day events.  The trip will be free but you will need to have money for the tram, lunch and there will be books to purchase.  If you are interested please come and put you name down in the LRC.

LRC Book Fair

We had another successful book fair this year and made nearly £200 in commission for books for the LRC.

We had a lucky dip competition for everyone who bought something from the book fair and our three lucky winners were Katrina, Nathan and Hazel.  We hope you enjoy your prizes 🙂

Get Ready To Vote!

Get #ReadyToVote

The 2016 Scottish Parliament election is the first in which 16 and 17 year olds can vote.
This means that if you’re 16 or over on 5 May 2016, you’ll be able to vote but you need to
register first. It only takes a few minutes to register online.
On Tuesday15 March 2016 we will be helping 15-17 year olds get #ReadyToVote by running a registration event at the Learning Resource Centre.
You’ll need your date of birth and National Insurance number to register (you only need your
National Insurance number if you are 16 or over), which you can find on official documents
such as letters from HM Revenue and Customs. Otherwise, for help you can visit:
gov.uk/lost-national-insurance-number. Don’t worry – if you are not yet 16 you won’t need
your National Insurance number to register.

You can also do it yourself here.
