Download the Nourish for Schools ebook!

As part of the annual campaign to get Scotland writing Scottish Book Trust asked primary and secondary pupils across the country to create a piece of personal writing inspired by the 2017 theme for Book Week Scotland, Nourish!

In answer to the campaign, they received poems that evoked schools dinners, family gatherings and favourite treats and stories that described food that nourished both the body and the soul. They have pulled together our favourites for you to enjoy!

Many thanks to all schools and pupils who participated in the campaign. If stories be the food of life, write on!

Book Week Scotland took place from Monday 27 November – Sunday 3 December 2017

Scottish Book Trust

The 50-Word Fiction Competition

Can you write a story in just 50 words?

Each month we’ll provide a prompt to get you started, but where the story goes from there is entirely up to you.

The competition includes two categories, All-Age and Young Writers (under the age of 18). All stories will be judged by the same panel and both winning stories will be published on our website.

A prize will be awarded to a writer in each category:

Whether you’re a seasoned writer or you’ve always fancied picking up a pen, why not give it a go?
